2017 UNSW PhD Positions available in Telecommunications Engineering, Australia

The UNSW Australia School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications is seeking high-quality students to conduct research leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in areas relating to resilient networks, Software Defined Networking, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Several types of scholarship are available, including Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scholarships which are open to Australian citizens or permanent residents, and International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and Tuition Fee Scholarship (TFS) which are open to international applicants. Chinese students can also apply for scholarships from the China Scholarship Council (CSC) (???????).
Elite students who hold a Bachelor of Engineering or Science in electrical engineering, telecommunications or computer science (must be equivalent to an Australian 1st class Honours degree or 85% grade average) and demonstrated an aptitude for research may be competitive for these PhD scholarships. Complete the self-assessment and check English language requirements and note that most applicants need to provide proof of English competency. It is essential that you have a deep understanding of network protocols and algorithm design and analysis. It is desirable that you have a knowledge of or interest in machine learning, optimisation, reliability engineering, network security, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
If you are likely to be eligible for entry, then email the self-assessment results, a CV detailing your education history and academic achievement (e.g. publication list, project funding obtained etc.), academic transcripts, and contact details of at least two academic referees to Dr Tim Moors (t.moors@unsw.edu.au) with the subject line “2017 PhD scholarship”. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed via Skype video conference, leading to submission of full applications to be considered by the University scholarship ranking committees. Successful applicants should start their PhD studies in Sydney Australia in Semester 2, 2017.
Note the key dates for applying for scholarships, that deadlines are strictly enforced according to Australian Eastern time (10 or 11 hours ahead of GMT). Imminent deadlines include the following:

  • International – 3 February 2017
