New Ph.D. Studentships at University of Worcester in UK, 2016-2017

The University of Worcester is offering full-time Ph.D. studentships on a competitive basis. These studentships are open to EU and international students for October 2016/February 2017 intake.
The aim of the university is to grow its research capacity in Education, particularly in the area of Business and Management research, History of Religion and Education,  Lifelong Learning and socio-cultural aspects of sport, exercise, and the body.
The University of Worcester is a British public university, based in Worcester, England. With a history dating back to 1946, the institution was granted university status in September 2005.
Postgraduate courses usually require a minimum IELTS of 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in any component) or Pearson 70 (with no less than 51 in each component) or various Cambridge certificates. Other equivalent English qualifications will also be considered.
Course Level: Studentships are available for pursuing Ph.D. program.
Study Subject: Studentships are awarded in one of the following topics:
  • Marketing/marketing with a focus on customer-to-customer (CCI) interaction
  • History of Religion and Education
  • Lifelong Learning
  • A socio-historical examination of transcultural identities, experiences and opportunities of migrant communities in relation to sport, leisure and physical practices and sport development/social policy
Scholarship Award: During the period of studentship applicant will receive the following:
  • A tax-free bursary of £13,863 for a period of 3 years
  • A fee-waiver for 4 years at the UK/EU fee rate (Please note: applicants from outside the EU are welcome but will need to pay the balance of fees for non-EU students (approx. £7000 per year)
  • A laptop
  • Use of the Research Student Study Space in Research School
  • Access to the Research Student Support Scheme to cover costs and expenses related to their research

Eligibility: Applicants should have or be able to evidence
For Marketing/marketing with a focus on customer-to-customer (CCI) interaction
  • A First or Upper Second (2.1) Honours Degree, or expect to receive one by October 2016;
  • A sound understanding of, and interest in services marketing/management;
  • Experience of relevant research methods and skills;
  • Ability to contribute to research study design;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to organize and meet deadlines;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;
  • Commitment and an enthusiastic approach to completing a higher research degree;
  • Education to Masters Degree level in a relevant area.
For History of Religion and Education
  • A First Class Honours Degree/or an Upper 2.1 (or expect to receive one by October 2016), with evidence of first class achievement in a dissertation on a relevant topic;
  • Demonstrable understanding of, and interest in religious education and/or Modern History, or Theology and Religious Studies;
  • Good understanding and experience of appropriate research methods and skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to organize and meet deadlines;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;
  • Commitment and an enthusiastic approach to completing a higher research degree.
  • Education to Masters Degree level in a relevant area. Education to Masters Degree level in a relevant area;
  • Ability to contribute to research study design;
  • Willingness and availability to travel in the UK and/or abroad for research
For Lifelong Learning
  • A Masters in Education or a closely related and relevant discipline to the project (or expect to receive one by October 2016) or relevant professional qualifications and work related experience;
  • A First or Upper Second (2.1) Honours Degree in Education, Humanities or similar subject relevant to the project; Proficiency in oral and written English;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to take initiative on the project and organize and meet deadlines;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;
  • A high level of commitment and an enthusiastic approach to completing a higher research degree;
  • Experience in the use of qualitative and/or quantitative research skills and methodologies within Education or related humanities domains.
  • Masters Degree level experience of appropriate research methods and skills;
  • Ability to contribute to research study design;
  • Existing connections/links with Lifelong Learning providers in or around the West Midlands;
A socio-historical examination of transcultural identities, experiences and opportunities of migrant communities in relation to sport, leisure and physical practices and sport development/social policy
  • (or expect to receive) preferably a MA/MSc in the Sociology or Socio-cultural aspects of Sport/Sport Studies/Physical Education fields or a closely related and relevant discipline
  • A First or Upper Second (2.1) Honours Degree with a relevant social science background such as Sociology, Sport Studies or Physical Education, or, a closely related and relevant discipline such as Education, Public Health, Social Policy
  • Proficiency in oral and written English;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to take initiative on the project and organise and meet deadlines;;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;
  • A high level of commitment and an enthusiastic approach to completing a higher research degree
  • Experience in the use of qualitative and quantitative research skills and methodologies within sociological/historical/policy domains.
  • Masters Degree level experience of appropriate research methods and skills;
  • Ability to contribute to research study design;
  • Existing connections/links with migrant communities in or around the West Midlands
  • Full UK Driving Licence

College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: The normal requirements to enable an applicant to be considered for admission to a University higher degrees program of study are as follows:
  • A Postgraduate Masters Degree in a discipline which is appropriate to the proposed program of study or
  • First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree or equivalent award in an appropriate discipline or
  • The applicant has appropriate research or professional experience at a postgraduate level which has resulted in published work, written reports or other appropriate evidence of achievement.
